What is Freedom Anti-Virus service, by TELUS?
Freedom Anti-Virus service, by TELUS is software developed by Zero-Knowledge Systems Inc. that helps protect your PC from harmful viruses

What is a virus?
A virus is a tiny program designed to add itself to your PC without your knowledge or permission.

A virus can corrupt your data, damage files, or even damage the computer hardware, which can be expensive to fix. Viruses appear from many sources including e-mail, Web sites and instant messages. There are approximately 50,000 known viruses.

How does Freedom Anti-Virus, by TELUS help protect my PC?
Freedom Anti-Virus, by TELUS will:
  • Scan your PC's hard drives to check for known viruses and the latest virus definition files. TELUS recommends that you save new incoming files on your hard drive before opening them so Freedom Anti-Virus can scan for viruses before opening.
  • Obtains Freedom's most recent anti-virus definition files via Internet downloads. Default downloads are sought every 6 hours, but you can choose other time periods (daily, weekly, etc.).
Whether you're on or offline, Freedom scans your PC for new viruses. You can also scan files that come in from other sources, such as disks.

How long is my subscription active?
Your Anti-Virus service will remain active as long as you subscribe to TELUS high speed service.

Do I have to use TELUS Anti-Virus service?
There is no requirement to use TELUS Anti-Virus. The cost of your TELUS high speed Internet service remains the same whether you use Anti-Virus or not. If you do not want to use the service, simply do not follow the download instructions.

bonus services

What are Freedom's bonus features?
Your Freedom Anti-Virus service, by TELUS includes additional services at no extra cost including:
  • Freedom Ad Block: helps speed your surfing experience by blocking ads and pop-ups.
  • Freedom Keyword Alert: designed to alert you before your computer sends your private information (names, addresses, credit card numbers) over the Internet
  • Freedom Cookie Manager: helps detect and manage cookies that are left on your PC by Web sites
  • Freedom Form Filler: helps you to quickly and easily fill out on-line forms and manage your passwords. You can also edit your personal information to drag and drop into the fields of an on-line form. This information should always be password protected.
What is the Freedom Ad Block?
The Freedom Ad Block will:
  • Help speed up your Web browsing by blocking unwanted ads. Freedom keeps a list of known ad servers and prevents your browser from opening them.
  • Help prevent messages from popping-up from within the requested Web site. With the pop-up blocker enabled, a sound is played to indicate an ad has been blocked. For pop-up content you want to see, Freedom can disable the pop-up blocker from working on sites of your choice.
How often does the Freedom Ad Block update its list of blocked sites?
Each time you log onto the Internet, Freedom updates its list of blocked advertisement sites.

How does the Freedom Keyword Alert Manager help protect me on the Internet?
The Freedom Keyword Alert Manager helps ensure your personal information is not transmitted without your permission.
  • You can define specific words, such as your children's names, IP address, and credit card numbers, as "key words." The Keyword Alert Manager detects when these words are about to be sent out over the Internet and asks for your permission. This helps prevent the unauthorized release of information.
Does the Freedom Keyword Alert Manager pick up keywords when using an instant messenger service?
No. Freedom's current proxy configuration does not scan for instant messenger as these services use ports not supported by Freedom's Firewall.

What is a cookie?
While you are on the Internet, small text files known as cookies are placed on your PC. These files are transmitted to your PC while you are visiting a particular Web site and contain information about you use of the site.
  • Cookies can be useful. For example, a Web site may ask if you want service in English or French. Your answer is then recorded in the cookie on your PC. Next time you visit that site, your personal language preference is loaded without asking you.
  • For example, TELUS uses cookies if you personalize mytelus.com. When you visit us, we display the news and weather from your city of choice.
  • Many people are concerned about losing privacy through the use of cookies. Your browser will have the ability to easily clean out all your cookies, including the useful ones. You can also delete only the cookies you don't want, but this isn't easy.
  • With Freedom's Cookie Manager you can easily manage which cookies you do and don't want.
How does Freedom Form Filler Manager help me when I'm surfing the Internet?
Freedom Form Filler saves you time completing online forms by re-using your pre-defined information. It also allows you to gain access to certain sites without revealing your personal information.
  • Freedom's Form Filler remembers and manages your online account names and passwords. All personal and sensitive information is encrypted and stored on your own computer. This information is only accessible by you or authorized individuals.
Is the information I enter into the Freedom Form Filler safe? Where is it kept?
The information you enter in Freedom Form Filler Manager is kept in your Freedom Security & Privacy Tools settings file (called freedom.dat file). This file is encrypted with industry-grade encryption and stored on your PC. No one has access to this information.

Freedom Form Filler Manager does not appear to work with the Web site I am using. What can I do?
You may visit a Web site that is not on the list of sites that Form Filler is configured for, forcing you to enter some of your information manually. If you encounter this, please contact Zero-Knowledge Systems directly so they can add to their list of sites. Web sites that use Java Script will not work with Freedom Form Filler Manager.
