Wireless Configuration Setup
If you do not have a 2WIRE modem or you are a High Speed Lite customer please proceed to Step 4.
1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking one of two methods:
a) Click on the 'e' (Internet Explorer icon) on the bottom left hand corner of the desktop (next to the Windows icon).
b) Click on the Windows icon and then click on Internet Explorer.
2. Once Internet Explorer launches type in "home" into the address field and press enter on your keyboard.
3. In Internet Explorer and new page will be displayed, click on the System icon (pictured below) at the top of the screen.
4. Underneath the System icon there is a System Password link. Click on this link and the following screen will be displayed:
Enter "telus" (all lower case without quotations) and click the SUBMIT button.
Enter a new password (the one provided by TELUS at the time of your service order) into
both fields and click SAVE.
6. In Internet Explorer, click on the Home Network icon (pictured below) at the top of the screen.
7. On the right hand side of the screen there is a box (pictured below), click on the EDIT SETTINGS button.
8. You will be prompted to enter your new password (from step 5), click on the SUBMIT button once you have entered it.
9. Several settings will need to be configured on this screen (pictured below):
a) For the Network Name field, replace this with your TELUS username (the one provided by TELUS at the time of your service order).
b) The Wireless Channel should be set to 6 (2437 MHz). Click on the down arrow to display a list of alternate channels in the case that is not on 6 already.
c) Ensure there is a checkmark in the ENABLE box to the left of SSID Broadcast.
d) Ensure there is a checkmark in the ENABLED box to the left of Wireless Network Security.
e) Authentication should be set to WEP-Open. Click on the down arrow to display a list of alternate security selection in the case that is not on WEP-Open already).
f) Click on the radio button before Use custom encryption key (so that it is selected).
g) In the key field you will need to create a random series of numbers (0 through 9) and letters (a through f). This random key MUST contain 26 numbers and letters.
For Example: 0123a4567b8901cdef3210fedc
Write down this random key you generate as it is used to setup additional computers if you decide to connect to the TELUS modem wirelessly.
h) Wireless Mode should be set to 802.11b/g.
i) DTIM Period (seconds) should be set to 1.
j) Maximum Connection Rate should be set to 54 Mbps.
k) Power setting should be set to 10
Once all of these are entered, click on the SAVE button.
